Description

A perfectly curated collection of the finest vintage preamps ever made, reborn as software plugins. Use legends of yesteryear to create classics of the future.
Stretching the limits of our award-winning analog modeling technology, TAE®, 3 Preamps You’ll Actually Use is a virtual collection of the most coveted studio preamps in the history of music. Iconic, distinctive, complementary and boosted with new exclusive features they will reveal the radiance of your tracks and infuse your records with the same color and tone as greatest hits and albums ever made.

1973-Pre
At their core, all of our preamp plugins provide 2 main benefits:

A link to the past
There’s something quite magical about hearing classic songs. If you let your mind drift, you’re transported to a totally different time: different fashion, different politics, different tastes, different lives. If you want to evoke the feeling of the 70s or 80s, when the 1073 was used on practically every chart hit, our 1973-Pre makes it easy. Added to individual tracks in your song, you can add that toasty, harmonic, saturated sound that typified the era.

Mixing confidence
Load up 1973-Pre as an “insert” effect on channel, dial in an appropriate preset, and most of the hard work has been taken care of. You’ll now be mixing with the sound of a classic analog console, with the parameters set up by a top sound designer. Now you’re free to get creative, safe in the knowledge that you have half a century of legendary pro audio heritage supporting you.

That’s what we think, anyway. How you decide to use 1973-Pre is up to you. Maybe you’ll just love the way drums sound when you slam the input gain and pull down the high end. In fairness, that does sound pretty awesome.

Cracking the code
We built our award-winning reputation on accurately modelling classic synthesizers and keyboards, now we extend our expertise to bringing legendary, rare, and unattainable pro audio hardware to every modern music creator.

We didn’t just want to make something that sounded like a 1073, we wanted to create a living, breathing emulation to bring you as close as possible to the joyous original, and go beyond your expectations. To do Rupert Neve’s brainchild justice, we analysed the unique response of every electronic component of the hardware. To guarantee the best preamp sound, Arturia’s engineers travelled the world, visited studios, and spoke to producers and engineers who use their 1073 on every project.

When designing the 1973-Pre, our quest brought us to London, England. There, we were able to spend some time with unit #3392, an original unmodified 1073 built in 1971. This particular preamp helped shape the course of popular music for almost half a century. Now owned by Fish Factory Studio, it also played its part in creating iconic Blur and Gorillaz tracks when it was used by Damon Albarn’s sound engineer.

Taking its rightful place alongside the best performance keyboards, analog synths, and digital powerhouses in Arturia’s virtual hall of fame, the 1973-Pre is ready to show you what it’s made of.

Rediscover an industry legend
Beautifully simple, yet stunningly effective, the 1973-Pre offers simple controls that pros will feel right at home with, and newcomers will quickly learn to love.

3-band equalizer
Creatively shape your signal with low, medium, and high band controls of +/- 18dB. The low band lets you perfectly balance the bass content in your signal, the mid band can add presence or cut the mud, and the high band can add shine and air, or remove any unwanted sharpness.

Input gain
Controls how much of your signal is sent through the circuitry. Subtle levels will introduce that flattering brilliance that the 1073 is known for. Pushing harder will introduce harmonic distortion, adding presence and fatness.

High pass filter
Cuts the super-low end, inaudible rumble in your signal. Switched on, this can give your mix more headroom and energy. Left off, it lets through the bass you feel, rather than hear.

Output trim
A fully transparent volume control to give your DAW exactly the level of signal you want.

It’s fair to say that in the 50 years since unit #3392 was built, the music industry has seen some changes. To bring this legend up to date, we’ve also included some optional enhancements to make the most of your DAW.
Automatic gain control intelligently alters the output volume based on the changes you make to the input gain.
Continuous controls, rather than stepped, for extra creative precision.
Switchable transformers, letting you choose between the original Carnill and the modified Marinair components, so you can easily choose which hardware voicing sounds best on your signal.
Self contained mid/side mode, so you don’t need to use additional convertors to use this advanced studio technique, your audio will sound amazing in both mono and stereo.
To top it all off, we even recreated the vintage style of the interface in a glorious, high-definition GUI. Every aspect of the 1973-Pre has been meticulously put together, ready to take your music to the next level.

TridA-Pre
The ultimate sound-shaper

TridA-Pre gives you all the power and features of the fabled Trident A Range, and more! Let’s take a look at how this elite channel strip translates as a plugin.

4 band, twin-channel equalizer
The fantastically musical A Range EQ has been recreated in all its glory. The high, high-mid, low-mid, and low EQ bands have 4 switchable frequencies, calibrated to match the original unit’s specification. These can be cut or boosted by 15dB independently on the left and right channels, or linked together. This gives you great freedom to shape your sound in a stereo space.

Low Pass Filter
Notch out the high end at 9kHz, 12kHz, 15kHz, or hit 2 or 3 switches to make more dramatic chance, this will soften the high frequencies of your signal.

Input Gain
From super-subtle overtones to growling solid-state drive, the Input Gain knob can be pushed to add whatever tonal flavor you desire.

High Pass Filter
Carve out the super-low frequencies from your signal, with cuts placed at 25Hz, 50Hz, and 100Hz. Like the Low Pass, you can also combine 2 or 3 switches for a stronger effect.

Mid/Side mode
Missing on the original A Range, TridA-Pre lets you use advanced mid/side techniques without external processing or convertors, meaning your audio will sound amazing in both mono and stereo.

Output Trim
Simple, but always useful. The output trim lets you adjust the “master volume” of the output without changing its tone.

It’s fair to say that since the original unit was built, the music industry has seen some changes. To bring this legend up to date, we’ve also included some optional enhancements to make the most of your DAW.

EQ bypass Pretty self-explanatory, this simple switch activates or deactivates the EQ section of TridA-Pre on one or both channels.
Automatic Gain control As you raise the gain, the output level is automatically adjusted, giving you a consistent, reliable perceived audio level. Now you can be sure that the changes you make sound great because they improve the tone, not just because it makes everything louder.
Phase Inversion A handy little utility that flips the polarity of one or both channels, great for correcting phasing issues or giving you voicing options.
Stereo Link Link both channels so that any any changes to the EQ or gain structure affect both channels at once. Disabled, you can make discrete changes to each channel.
TridA-Pre also features a gorgeous GUI. This attention to detail even extends to classic post-gain VU meters, which can be calibrated to your taste, and light up when the signal is peaking at -1dBFS.

V76-Pre
Cracking the code
Pro audio equipment doesn’t become legendary without a story to tell. To say the legacy of the Telefunken V series preamp is huge would be an understatement.
Its rich tone and huge creative potential made it an integral part of Abbey Road’s setup at arguably the most pivotal point in their history. Despite being known as the go-to microphone preamp for radio broadcast and studio use, and first-choice mastering amplifier, working V76 units are hard to come by. Fortunately for us, we were able to start and end our quest for ultimate tube-tone in France.

At Question De Son, a highly-esteemed recording studio in Paris’ 10th arrondissement, we were able to study an original, sequential pair of V76/80 preamps. Models 4754 had 4755 have been in active service for 70 years, and made the perfect subjects for our study.

We didn’t just want to create a carbon copy, but rather give you the best elements of Telefunken’s sonic signature. For example, made the gain controls continuous for more precise control, removed the seldom-used “broadcast utility” 3kHz low-pass switch, and refined the boost and cut range of the V612 EQ, giving you studio tools that are more usable for the modern musician.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Arturia’s research, modelling, and development teams, you too can include the tone of the fabled V76 preamp and V612 equalizer into your DAW setup.

Take a closer look
The V76-Pre combines the finest German-designed preamp and EQ of the era into one amazing vintage channel strip plugin. Let’s take a look at what makes it such a joy to use.

Modified V612 2-band Equalizer
V76-Pre’s equalizer is modelled on a rare, modified Telefunken V612, giving you access to a musically-placed high shelf and low shelf. These can both be cut or boosted by 10dB for subtle balancing of your signal.

V76 Input Gain
The main control of the preamp, letting you increase the strength of the incoming signal, passing it through the virtual circuitry and vacuum tube. It starts to impart more of its tonal flavor the hotter the signal gets, until it starts to break up with harmonically rich soft-clipping.

Multi-mode High-Pass Filter
The included high-pass lets you remove low bass frequencies at 80Hz, roll off the high-energy low end at 300Hz, or use both together to create a more dramatic effect. The high-pass can also be bypassed, leaving your signal unfiltered.

Output Trim
Simple, but always useful. The output trim lets you adjust the “master volume” of the output by 24dB without changing its tone.

Mid/Side mode
Absent from the Telefunken original, V76-Pre lets you use advanced mid/side techniques without external processing or convertors, meaning your audio will sound amazing in both mono and stereo.

It’s fair to say that since the original unit was built, the music industry has seen some changes. To bring this legend up to date, we’ve also included some optional enhancements to make the most of your DAW.

EQ bypass Pretty self-explanatory, this simple switch activates or deactivates the EQ section of V76-Pre on one or both channels.
Stereo Link Link both channels so that any changes to the EQ or gain structure affect both channels at once. Disabled, you can make discrete changes to each channel for maximum creative control.

Last but not least, V76-Pre features a beautifully rendered GUI. Not only does it bring your DAW back to life, it also gives you useful feedback. For example, the level indicators will glow with background tube warmth with no signal, shine green with low signal, orange at optimum “reference” level, and red with peaks at -1dBFS.
